Sarvenaz Amanat: Self-Hell

Twenty-one ink drawings and four sculptures will be on display in this exhibition of works by Sarvenaz Amanat. The work was inspired by meeting Art Spiegelman and seeing his work. Spiegelman’s work often involves trauma and many different emotions, also a part of Amanat’s pieces.

This adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s classic comedy focuses on a small Russian town that is terrified an incognito inspector will soon be arriving to investigate them. During the commotion, a civil servant, recently arrived from Saint Petersburg, is suspected of being the inspector, and the suspect in question is more than happy to have them believe that. How long will he be able to keep up the deception?

Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet presents Going Home Star, a performance that pays tribute to the survivors of Canada’s infamous residential schools. Originally envisioned by the late Cree elder and activist Mary Richard, this performance tells the story of Annie, a young First Nations girl and her travels through abuse and injustice.
