Staff Benda Bilili: Concert cancelled

STAFF BENDA BILILI

September 19, Vogue Theatre

CONCERT CANCELLED

The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is extremely disappointed to announce the cancellation of the concert by Staff Benda Bilili, the extraordinary Congolese music group slated to perform at the Vogue Theatre on Monday, September 19th.

The concert was part of a substantial North American tour also cancelled in its entirety by Staff Benda Bilili management, who cited major issues obtaining the required documentation for the group to enter the U.S. as the reason for cancelling the tour. No future plans have been announced. The Vancouver concert was the group’s only Canadian date on a tour that was scheduled to begin in Folsom, California on September 14th.

This tour had a major supporter in Rotary International as part of that organization’s work to eradicate polio around the world. Members of Staff Benda Bilili have been stricken by the disease, and their story and music continues to inspire and educate people everywhere.

National Geographic Entertainment is still moving forward to promote the documentary “BendaBilili”! about the group and their lives in Kinshasa Congo, which will screen at this year’s Vancouver International Film Festival.
